Like most Tropheus this is an herbivore, meaning they spend most of there day eating algae and other plant matter in lake Tanganyika. Feeding them a spirulina based food is a must with treats, we also like to feed romaine lettuce and spinach. They can handle the occasional meat based food, but feeding it too often will cause bloat, which Tropheus are susceptible to.
Tropheus are found in the rocky reef where there is a lot of light, this is way algae grows quickest. Replicating this will cause your Tropheus to adapt to your aquarium much more quickly.
Tropheus are highly aggressive to conspecific species, because of this it is advised to keep them in groups of 12 or more to spread the aggression out.
